The Tale of the Soil

Spin Street in Cape Town, South Africa was once where a slave auction tree stood. The tree, an imported fir from Europe, marked the ritual of slave auctioning during cape slavery (1652–1834) under Dutch and British rule. In personifying the soil that the tree was planted in as the colonised, the model projection tries to reveal the hidden realities that took place on Spin Street in the past.
