The video asks, “What if?” What if the prophecy by the Xhosa prophetess was true and the dead did rise? What if they deceived the white people and rose as Jan van Riebeeck, using the disguise as a passport of an entrance?
The video is a satire that entertains the South African notion that never engages white people returning to their place of origin. In the video, Nongqawuse rises from the sea but she disguises herself as Jan van Riebeeck. She tells the residents of Clifton 4th the following:
I have come to tell you all that revenge is upon us, Black people have risen to power.
They are now more united and stronger.
They bear more weapons, not only the physical ones, and all the powers, they believe in.
The chains of mental bondage have broken.
They see all that they are and all that is concealed in them.
I ask you all, as I know that the war is much greater than we can handle, gather all that you can carry, all your belongings, assemble as many ships as possible, collect all the records and maps of our voyage from all the museums and, before the rise of the sun, make the journey back home.
