The Black Body represents black people who were deemed as intellectually and physically inferior,
thus was treated as “Objects” rather than “Subjects” that were enslaved, oppressed and studied. Bio
power is a way of understanding how state institutions have become refined in the process of
controlling populations through preserving the life of the favoured and administering death to the
unfavoured. According to Beatriz Colomina Architecture changed and was informed as a means to
prevent disease, it created outliers that disproportionately affected individuals such as the Black Body.
This project reveals the use of the Anatomical Theatre and its relationship to the operating room table
which reveals agents, behaviors and programs that instructs the violence and experimentation of the
Black Body through the lens of legislation. I used the method of narrating scripts and curating images.
I referenced the Anatomical Theatre, Leiden from the Netherlands that displays the violence.
